Music – Together On Hari Raya…
The fasting month is fast approaching to an end, therefore IEM Toastmasters would like to wish all our Malay friends a special Happy Hari Raya, and may good fortunes arise ahead.
Hello My Dear Brothers & Sisters in Toastmasters
Wonderful greetings !
How had the past one month been ? Busy attending TLIs, having fun meetings under the new EXCOs, charted the course for the club success ?….the list continues…Reflect upon those few questions and check whether the journey you embarked in Toastmasters is on track.
It may not be about GOALS but we need GOALS to drive us forward and excel on a timely manner. Setting challenging goals help us elevate to another level while embracing new learning along the way. Its never too late to put your thoughts/goals on a slate and draw up the personal plan to move on. Do it NOW if you have yet to do it.
As leaders, we are always available and accessible to the membership at anytime on Toastmasters matters. Do engage on us as that would also help us collectively build rapport, support one another and ACHIEVE GREATNESS TOGETHER. I just got my I-Phone about a month ago and it had improved my response time to the emails from 24 hrs to much lesser – at times instantly. This is what I commit to deliver as a humble servant of the district.
Start focusing on CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORs (CSF) as they are the measures of your individual self-progression in this time-tested Toastmasters Programme. Just to recap , CSF are in the acronym C A R E -> C for CC/CL, A for AC/AL, R for Retention of Members/Clubs and E for Extension of new clubs. These should be seen as the catalyst for success and not mere goals for district to shine. Accomplishment of every GOAL in the DCP means at least an individual is progressing/improving. GO FOR IT without Fear and you would have an enriching and fulfilling end result.
As this is a people’s organization for people, there may be some miscommunication, conflicts and dislikes along the way. This should not take the centrestage as we are here to develop ourselves and help others follow the same route towards excellence. Such negative events, if any, should be discussed with the appropriate leaders for quick resolution and in no-way it should distract the club/members focus in the running of the Toastmasters meetings/events.
I am humbled by your support and do join me in making Toastmasters a household name in every/many organization as well as all corners of the community. This is the best gift we can offer the organization for its immense benefits, from which we may have tremendously progressed in our life. I, for one, am very grateful for knowing Toastmasters at an early age of 22 . It had certainly been a fruitful journey of 14 years in Toastmasters with me leading the organization as a humble and simple servant this term.
Thank you again for all your good work and please help channel the leads for potential clubs to me / LGM Ramdas while ensuring you continue to progress in your educational journey ! Please drop me a note of your events and I will be glad to be present if possible, to touch base with the grassroot members.
Keep well and enjoy your Toastmasters meetings/events.
A Toastmaster who wishes to be among you, all the time…..
Humble & Simple DG D51 2010/11

Due to the many public holidays in September, these are the new dates for our meetings.
2nd September – Thursday – regular meeting at 7.44 pm
23rd September – Thursday – Club Humour & Speech Evaluation Contest at 7.44 pm
29th September – Wednesday – Area C2 Humour & Speech Evaluation Contest at 7.44 pm
Dear Toastmasters,
Its that time of the year again, a chance for you (Yes, YOU!) to polish the skills you’ve learnt so far in Toastmasters and show them to the world! (or perhaps, just IEM Toastmasters and other clubs in the region). What time is that, you ask?
It’s time for IEM Toastmasters’ Humour and Speech Evaluation Contest!
The contest will be happening on Thursday, 23rd September 2010 at our usual meeting time 7:44PM on the 2nd Floor, IEM Building.
So it will be just like our usual meetings, except, even better! Contesting is open to all members of IEM Toastmasters.
However, we will also be requiring roleplayers during the contest, namely Timers, Ballot Counters and Contest Chairs. Being a roleplayer at a contest meets the requirement of Project 6 of your CL Manual, i.e. Help organize a club speech contest. As contests do not frequently occur, this is a great opportunity for you to be one step closer in achieving your CL title!
Join us now!

Dear fellow toastmasters!!
Once again, to all IEM toastmaster members whose birthday falls on Aug, we will be celebrating their birthdays during the next meeting!! (12th Aug, Thurs)
We will be offering pizzas as the “birthday cake” during break time to continue the trend.
Do join us in our next exciting meeting & celebrate the August-ers!!!
Sitting down at IEMTM’s latest meeting no. 104, I had a slight feeling of dread due to popular beliefs of the unlucky number 4. Nevertheless, I set my negative feelings aside and the meeting on the 22nd July 2010 turned out to be one of the most enjoyable meetings thus far.
We started with an amazing turnout, Toastmasters – old and brand new, a whole troop visiting from Midvalley Toastmasters, and our Guests for the evening, the Lau family. This has quite possibly broke IEMTM’s records for Youngest Attendant and Widest Age Gap of Meeting Attendants.
As usual, attendance list follows:
Because we had more than 4 project speakers that day, it was a Speech Marathon with no Table Topics session. The Toastmaster of the Evening, Lee Meng Tze started off with a humour session.
Speeches began with Mac giving his first speech: the Icebreaker – a good detailed introduction of himself, family, and work.
Up next was Ismail Omar re-doing his CC for the umpteenth (?) time doing his 2nd speech entitled “Sold into Slavery” – a tale of his early schooling years.
Thirdly, Jane Lee from Midvalley TM gave her 3rd speech titled “Wanting to Feel Good” – urging us all to trust and stand up for our feelings.
Chia Meng Yee was next with her very enjoyable 6th speech on “Aliens and the Revenge of the Aliens” – an animated story of alien attacks on Planet Jundo. The story was she told was created by two 5- and 11-year old children that she knew.
Robert Ram was next with the first Advanced Communication speech of the night, giving his AC#5 presentation on “Website and Membership”. His presentation included many interesting statistics on the impact of having a club website on membership numbers.
Finally, a last minute addition to the agenda, Alex Lu gave an informative presentation titled “Do You Have a Retirement Plan?” which showed the benefits of an early start for retirement planning and added information on how to calculate how much you need to save.
At around 9:04, we had a break and short celebration for the July babies of the club: Ismail Omar and Chia Meng Yee, complete with an improvised birthday-pizza-cake.
After the break, the General Evaluator Tan Poh Leong took over for the evaluation session – which consisted of the various speech evaluations, presentation of role-players’ reports and finally the GE’s own overall evaluation.
A string of announcements later, the meeting ended at …

On the 8th of July 2010, IEM Toastmasters held it’s 1st club meeting of the new term. To make things more exciting, we had a new member induction ceremony for Toastmaster Mac. The Inducting Officer was Competent Communicator Alex Lu. Toastmaster Chia Meng Yee was assigned the responsibility of being Mac’s mentor.
Attendance was pretty good, with 10 IEMTM members, 3 Toastmasters from other clubs and a walk-in guest. List of attendance as follows:
Ismail Omar did his icebreaker speech which tickled our funny bones with his humorous approach. Shah Nasir, the 2nd speaker spoke about Hang Tuah, a historical warrior from Malacca. Shah Nasir’s speech was indeed an animated one.
After that, the General Evaluator took over for the evaluations of prepared speeches, role players’ reports and of course, the general evaluation. We were very fortunate to have had a very detailed and thorough evaluation from ACB Francis Chiong, which I’m sure gave attendees significant food for thought. He was particularly impressed that our meeting was organized in a very systematic manner.
The Table Topics champion for the night was Shah Nasir…clap..clap..clap! His animated style won the hearts of the audience.
The Organizing Chair for our Officer Installation Ceremony, Alex Lu took the stage at the end of the meeting. He announced that our Officer Installation Ceremony will be held on 31.7.2010 at 12 pm in the Card Room of Royal Selangor Club, Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. This would be a joint installation between IEM & IME Toastmasters.
He mentioned that the event will include the new officers installation, lunch & lucky draws. Approximately 100 Toastmasters from throughout the Klang Valley area will attend.
The early bird ticket prices are going for RM45. This early bird promotion will expire on 23.7.2010. After 23.7.2010, the price will be RM50. He encouraged each member to purchase 2 tickets to raise funds which will ensure that the club can break even on the event.
The meeting came to an end at 9:44 PM.
